50 Steps to a Healthier Newham
Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2020 - 2023
What's your step?

The 50 Steps to a Healthier Newham strategy was developed in conjunction with a number of partners, and aims to tackle the health inequalities that exist within the borough.
The 50 Steps is a call to action to partners, the council and the wider community to work together to make Newham a healthier and happier place.
Find out more about the background to the 50 Steps.
The scope of the 50 Steps is very wide, in order to build the foundations so we can do even more in the future. It is designed so that whatever your role, whatever your organisation, there is a step you can take to help.
Now is the time to act and make a difference. So, what’s your step?

Newham Changemakers
We have chosen individuals and organisations who are going above and beyond to support the health and wellbeing of the community to represent one of our 50 steps. We call them Changemakers. Newham Changemakers sit at the heart of our campaign. They demonstrate how a change in mind set and a focus on health and wellbeing can be adopted by all.

Changemaker of the month
Approximately 16 years ago Paul recognised that there were no sports clubs designed for those with a disability. He believed everyone should have equal opportunities to keep fit and to participate in sports. He therefore started his very own disability multi-sports club which began with one participant, his son. It grew organically by word of mouth and has developed into multiple sessions a week for a range of individual needs. Click here to read more about Paul and Step 34.
